Grimsey is an island only 25 nautical miles off the north coast of Iceland, inhabited by just 80 individuals who will welcome you with the warmth and hospitality for which Icelanders have become so well known.
During this captivating, wraparound adventure you will be swept off to the tiny island’s most awe-inspiring uniqueness. This magical island is a gem on the Arctic Circle. It’s inhabitants live a courageous and harsh lives. Throughout the centuries, they have earned their living by fishing in the Arctic sea but as recently as this decade, they have also begun to welcome tourists.
Grímsey is a wonderfully charming and unique destination. There you will meet friendly locals who can tell you countless sagas about the hardship of living in such a windswept and secluded spot on the globe.
As you approach the island by boat you will be greeted by colorful, cute puffins who have long been the unique icon of Grimsey. Later on the locals will take you to the beautiful cliffs where you can catch great pictures of those lovely creatures. After a refreshing hike on the island you will enjoy a wonderful seafood meal at the local community house.
Feeling content from the days adventures and after this satisfying meal, we head on our boat back to Akureyri. During the trip you will see the breathtaking scenery of Eyjafjordur, the island Hrísey and have the opportunity to meet the majestic whales of Akureyri.
